Blind candidates waiting for railway posting since one year

Four blind persons, who landed jobs with the Central Railway nearly a year ago, are still awaiting posting, and more importantly, salary cheques.
    
The situation has arisen because Railway apparently does not know how to use them. The matter has now landed in the Bombay High Court.
    
Vijay Gujar, hailing from Dhule, and three others have dragged the Railway to the High Court, seeking a posting, and damages of Rs 50,000 each from the concerned officers for the mental anguish they had suffered.
    
Gujar, Vaishali Kamble, Ramavtar Prajapati and Dayanand Prasad cleared the the Railway's written examination in November 2007.
    
Under the Disability Act of 1995, government departments have to reserve three per cent jobs for the disabled.
    
These four, being blind, had applied under this quota, and cleared written exam, interviews and medical tests by August last year.
    
But for six months thereafter, they did not get the appointment letter, their petition says. Nor did they get salary.
    
Finally, after much pursuance, appointment letters were issued to them, and they were posted in the office of chief commercial manager.

But the petition alleges that in the commercial manager's office they were told that there was no work for the blind.
    
As the last resort, they turned to the High Court.
    
The division bench led by Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar is expected to hear the case this week.
