BANDRA: Four brothers, who run the Al’s Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio in Bandra, have added their art to Zindagi Rocks, a film directed by Tanuja Chandra. Al, Olly, Arun and Aj started Al’s the studio around four-and-a-half years ago, initially operating as a nail bar.

“Our business catered to the female population and was restricted to just nails,” they say. “We came up with the idea of opening a tattoo and body piercing studio.” The four have done a masters in Fine Arts from Baroda, and Al has attended training sessions in Amsterdam and The Netherlands in tattooing and body piercing.

In Zindagi Rocks, the brothers have made a temporary tattoo of goddess Kali on Sushmita Sen’s arm, and another one of a snake on her foot. The shoot lasted around three months, and took place at Lonavala. Other artistes were also tattooed.

Says Al, “We enjoyed working with the film’s cast. Sushmita was extremely cool and it was a nice experience working with her. She liked the tattoo a lot. Many people approach us for tattoo-making. But we simply do not move ahead with it. We counsel clients on tattoos and tell them what is good for them, as these things are going to last them for life.”

The brothers have had their work featured in other movies too. Actors Sunny Deol, Rakhi Sawant and Mandira Bedi are among those who have patronised the studio.
