An alert woman helped the Gamdevi police to nab a 20-year-old man who tried to lure her daughter by paying her Rs2,000 of she met him.

The boy contacted the woman's 12-year-old daughter studying in class VII and asked her to meet him August Kranti Maidan on Monday.

An officer at Gamdevi police station said that the incident took place on Sunday around 11.45am. Sunita Bhosale (name changed), 31, received a call her mobile phone from one Rohit saying that he was a close friend of her 12-year-old daughter Reena (name changed) and wanted to talk to her.

Bhosale suspected foul play and agreed to meet Rohit pretending to be Reena on the phone. Rohit told Bhosale that he was in love with Reena and wanted to meet her at August Kranti Maidan. He even said he'd pay her Rs2,000 if she met him just once.

Meanwhile, Bhosale lodged a complaint at Gamdevi police station on the same day. Bhosale landed at the Maidan along with plain clothes cops and laid a trap to nab Rohit. But he didn't turn up.

On Monday at around 9.30am, Rohit contacted her again and asked to meet at the same spot at around 11.30am. Thereafter, police nabbed Rohit and while checking his mobile phone, it was revealed that he had contacted Bhosale.

“Sagar Kenjale alias Rohit, 20, resident of Colaba, was booked section 509 IPC and he was released on cash bail of Rs3,000,” said the officer.
