After DNA reported about how the mismanagement at terminal T3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, inconvenienced 372 passengers on November 3,  Air India (AI) has set up a high-level monitoring system at the airport.

The system is aimed at ensuring smoother operations and seamless connectivity for passengers between international and domestic flights.

On November 1, two Air India flights, AI-120 and AI-717, got delayed by seven hours. This happened because the airline shifted operations to the newly built T3 terminal at Delhi airport. At that point, the authorities had maintained that they need time to get accustomed to the new processes.

As a solution to the ongoing hassles, a nodal group of senior officers comprising executive directors and heads of operating departments have been constituted to resolve all operational issues, interact with other agencies and also provide guidance and support services.

Four working groups have been formed, each of which will be headed by a senior officer of the level of executive director.

These working groups will monitor arrival and departure of flights, delivery of baggage, facilitation of passengers who miss connections due to late arrival of flights, amenities provided to passengers of delayed flights and information dissemination.

The executive directors of each of the working groups have been empowered to take all operational decisions on the spot and ensure that on-time performance is maintained so as to minimise the inconvenience to passengers.

Hourly reports will be sent to the nodal group, whose intervention will be sought to resolve any issue which is beyond the span of control of the working groups.
