Agripada Police launch manhunt for activist’s attackers

The Agripada police have launched a search for the four unidentified persons who attacked a social activist on Sunday.

Ismail Suleman Shah, belonging to the Agripada locality, was attacked by four unidentified men on Sunday. He had gone there to check out a property that he had rented in the area. Shah is a secretary with NGO People Work Welfare Society (PWWS).

Recently, Shah had championed the case of irregularities in Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project of Topaz Co-operative housing society at Sunderdas Compound of Dr A Nair Road.

Shah had filed a writ petition with the Bombay high court regarding the same where he had mentioned that many people had wrongly registered their names in the project and there were several irregularities in the procedure followed by the developers and other members.

Hearing for the same was scheduled to be held on Monday at the high court.

Shah said, “I had gone there to check this property that I have rented there. As soon as I reached the place which is a tad secluded with some hutments around, an unidentified youth in his early 20s approached me. He attacked me with a stick.”

He added “Three other youth joined him and they kept assaulting me. They broke my right knee and then left the spot. I managed to get up and call up a few friends for help who then rushed me to the hospital.”

Shah suspects that the attack was made on him on orders from people against whom he has complained in the case that he has filed. 

Shah approached the Agripada police and a case of grievous assault has been registered against the unidentified accused.
