The Mumbai police Social Service Branch (SSB) on Thursday arrested one person from Delhi in a case of alleged kidnap, confinement and rape of a minor at Malwani.
After ten years of sexual exploitation, a 22-year-old girl has succeeded in getting some justice. The Mumbai police Social Service Branch (SSB) on Thursday arrested one person from Delhi in a case of alleged kidnap, confinement and rape of a minor at Malwani.
“The accused, identified as Ameet Powar, 26, is a resident of Delhi. He has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act. Powar indulged in supplying girls from Mumbai to clients in Delhi,” said an SSB officer. The special court at Mazgaon remanded Powar in police custody till March 26.
Kajal Gupta (name changed) from West Bengal was just 12 when she was brought to Mumbai by one Noorjahan, on the pretext of giving her a job. On reaching Mumbai, she was handed over to Rajesh Rajput, an alleged pimp from Malwani. Rajput allegedly confined her and raped her several times before forcing her into flesh trade. This exploitation continued till November 2009.
Kajal filed a criminal writ petition in the Bombay high court on February 2, 2010. She alleged that Rajput sent her to Delhi along with Powar to entertain a customer. Rajput allegedly took Rs2 lakh from the client. Powar and his associate Misti Sharma allegedly took her nude photographs. Powar then demanded a laptop from Kajal in lieu of the photographs. Once back in Mumbai, she bought Powar a laptop. However, Powar did not give her the photographs.
The high court last week directed the police to investigate the case. A case was registered against four accused. Powar was arrested in Delhi acting on a tip-off.
A manhunt has been launched to nab Rajput.
