Kickstarting its initiative to create new titles after a gap of four years, publishing house ACK Media, known for the renowned comic series Amar Chitra Katha, will launch a new title on Mother Teresa on her 100th birth anniversary on August 26.

"The latest initiative comes after four years and with it kickstarting the process of creating new titles covering epics and mythology, people, visionaries and brave-hearts, fables, folk takes and classics," ACK Media CEO Samir Patil told PTI.

"Titles of a revolutionary, historical spot and a scientist will be launched in the next few months. It has decided to launch new titles every two months," he said.

"This is part of Amar Chitra Katha brand revival - we will focus on growing the book reading habits for children and bring in new titles at regular interval making it relevant for the new generation to know and connect with their country and societal ethos," he added.

Patil said the new Amar Chitra Katha on Mother Teresa was created with the help of the Missionaries of Charity, the institution founded by her.

The Missionaries of Charity were enthusiastic in supporting the Mother Teresa project and helped in research and groundwork for the book, he said.

Amar Chitra Katha, a collection of timeless illustrated stories for the under-15 age group is about creating space for Indian culture in the child's mind, providing meaningful entertainment alternatives and bringing fun into the development of early learning skills, Patil said.

Patil said ACK Media had recently ventured into film production with films like 'Tripura' and 'Sons of Ram' which are under  production.

Savita Pai, vice-president-product management, ACK Media said, "Mother Teresa was chosen as our come-back title because of the universality of the figure and 26th August 2010, being her 100th year was a perfect date to launch the book and take it to every kid and household for them to learn about a noble figure like Mother and learn from her great deeds."

"We have done intense research not just from empirical recorded data sources and books but coupled with meetings and interviews with people who have known Mother closely," said
Reena Puri, editor, Amar Chitra Katha.

"We volunteered with the missionaries and also met Sister Gertrude, who was one of the first two Sisters to join Mother Teresa, for our research. Even the first synopsis and the script of the book were sent to the Missionaries of Charity, to check for authenticity and to clarify details", she added.

The 40-page feature talks about how Mother being an Albanian, by birth, made India her home and from here reached out to the world to heal the disease of poverty and loneliness. What inspired a 12-year-old girl to want to travel to a far away country to help the poor and how she reached out to children and brought joy into thousands of little lives, Puri said.
