80-year-old found murdered at Kondhwa residence; servant arrested

Police said the senior citizen had caught his domestic help stealing valuables from the cupboard.

A senior citizen was found murdered at his residence in Konark Puram Society, Kondhwa Khurd, in the wee hours of Friday. The police suspect that the victim, Vinod Brijlal Parekh (80), was strangled to death by his servant. The police have arrested the servant Sham Ghishalal Panimar (20) on Friday night.

The Kondhwa police told DNA that the victim and his wife were living in a flat on the first floor of the Konark Puram Society in Kondhwa Khurd. The suspect, Panimar, was working with the victim's daughter in Mumbai. Three days ago, the victim's daughter had sent Panimar to Pune to serve her parents.

According to senior police inspector Prasad Hasabnis, the senior citizen had caught Panimar stealing valuables from the cupboard following which Panimar strangulated Parekh and dumped his body in the bathroom.

Meanwhile, Parekh's wife, who woke up due to the commotion, confronted Panimar. Panimar said that Parekh had collapsed following a stroke. Parekh's wife informed the neighbours who rushed an injured Parekh to a nearby hospital.

At the hospital, Parekh told the doctors about the attack on him before succumbing to his injuries.

The police rushed to Parekh's residence and arrested Panimar and recovered cash worth Rs69,000 from him.

According to the police, Panimar hails from Madhya Pradesh and has been to the city three times in the past.
