The 23-year-old Sudanese national, Amjad El-Ghezoly Ahmad, succumbed on Saturday after a week’s struggle with severe injuries. He became the 12th German Bakery blast victim.

Amjad was admitted to the Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital with 60 per cent burns last Saturday. Doctors said both his legs had to be amputated due to deep and serious burns. Amjad was pursuing his geology course (BSc second year) at the Nowrosjee Wadia College.

Amjad’s uncle Taiyab Shugoug was in the city to claim his body. Around 100-odd Sudanese nationals were present to console the deceased family and see their friend for the last time.
One of the deceased’s friends, Sohaib Jadalla said the 200-odd Sudanese nationals in the city were shaken.

Around 350 nationals from the North Eastern African country of the Republic of Sudan study and work in the city. “Many Sudanese opt for Pune because their families think it is a safe city. I doubt whether the parents will send their kids after this,” said Jadalla.
Amjad’s body will be taken on Saturday night to Sudan where he will be buried.
