The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police recently seized 124 kg of hashish in two separate incidents and arrested 11 persons in this regard. The contraband is worth Rs10 crore in the international market.

The first incident was at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on June 5 where a truck carrying 87 kg of hashish was intercepted and the drug seized. The accused had hidden the contraband in cavities created over the driver’s cabin. The drug was brought from Jammu & Kashmir for delivery in the city.

Two suppliers from Kashmir and four men from the city who were going to receive this contraband were arrested. They have been identified as Mansigh Rajput, 34, Mohammad Maqbool, 48 — both from Kashmir, Param Singh, 34 , Jasbeer Singh, 42, Janamullah Turqi and Irfan Khan. This seizure was made by the Worli Unit of ANC.

Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Himanshu Roy, said: “Interrogation of the arrested accused is on to know about the other suppliers who carry out drug trade in the city.”

The second seizure was on June 6. The accused were carrying the contraband in a Mahindra Xylo SUV. Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Kandivli unit of ANC laid a trap near Khetripada on the Western Express Highway at Dahisar. The SUV was intercepted and when it was searched, the drug found.

Five people were arrested. They have been identified as Alam Shah, Ramzan Shaikh, Mohammad Shah, Ibrahim Jehangir and Satish Padave. Padave is the person who was going to receive the contraband from the four suppliers from J&K.

ANC officials suspect that the arrested accused are one of the biggest suppliers of hashish to the city. The officials are interrogating them to find out about other drug peddlers and suppliers who receive the contraband from them.

The eleven accused have been booked under several sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
