Shiv Sena is raging over the sudden removal of its three-time MP Shivajirao Adhalrao as chairman of the Pune District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC), otherwise known as 'Disha'. What has further infuriated the party is that Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, a BJP stalwart, has been appointed to the post.

Disha committee, which was established in July 2016, has been mandated for effective development and coordination of almost all central government programmes.

The purpose of this committee is to coordinate with the Centre, the state and local panchayat governments for successful and timely implementation of the schemes.

Incidentally, Adhalrao is yet to get a formal communication about his removal. He has only got the bad tidings from the Pune district collector's office.

Adhalrao and his party have questioned the timing, especially since Shiv Sena abstained from the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition.

Shiv Sena parliamentary party leader Anand Adsul wrote a missive to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, stating that the change had occurred without consulting the party.

"Javadekar is a Rajya Sabha member with minor access to rural areas. As a long-standing parliamentary unit, we feel really offended at the way this change in the chairmanship of Disha Committee has taken place. This needs a
relook,'' Adsul stated.

Adhalrao told DNA, "In a letter to the union rural development minister Narendra Singh Tomar, I have pointed out that the action seems to be taken keeping in view the general elections within 7-8 months in mind to get political mileage.

‘Will Tell PM’

Sena MP Shivajirao Adhalrao told DNA that the Sena Parliamentary Party will soon register its protest with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
