More than 40,000 diploma holders of polytechnic courses who get direct entry into the second year of engineering on vacant seats, have no clue when their admissions will begin.

Reason being, the results of first-year engineering students, which give a clear picture of the number of vacant seats available for diploma holders, are yet to come in.

Even though most other universities from the state have declared their first yearengineering results, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) is yet to begin direct second-year engineering admissions since Mumbai University has shown no sign of declaring the results anytime soon.

An official from DTE who did not wished to be named, said, “The process of allotment of seats can start only after we have proper data of vacant seats.”

However, the DTE has started the online application system for admissions. The official revealed, “If we had not started the application process, it would have resulted in panic among students..”

The MU exam controller Prof Vilas Shinde and the university’s registrar in-charge Dr MS Kurhade were not available to comment on the issue.
