Utter confusion plagues the issue of meat ban in Mira Bhayander region. The situation has taken an ugly turn with the civic chief of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation now at loggerheads with elected representatives regarding the ban.

MBMC civic chief Achyut Hange revealed that the ban would be conducted only on September 10 and 17 as per the state government rule during the Paryushan period. Mayor Geeta Jain remained adamant regarding the resolution passed in the House with a majority of 29 votes. The Shiv Sena protested the ban and other opposition parties carried out a morcha.

"It's wrong on the part of the civic chief to take such decisions as we had passed the resolution," said Geeta Jain, mayor of Mira Bhayander.

"We would be holding a meeting regarding the meat ban on Thursday evening and would be deciding on further course of action. As of now the civic chief has switched off his cellphone," said Jain.

MBMC Chief Achyut Hange remained unavailable for comment.
