An offence has been registered at Worli police station in connection with the Campa Cola buildings demolition case. Senior inspector Deepak Pawar of Worli police station said, “According to an order of Bhoiwada metropolitan magistrate’s court, an FIR (First Information Report) was registered last week,” said Pawar, who expressed his inability to divulge details of the report as he was “extremely busy with the Campa Cola case”.

Last month, a metropolitan magistrate’s court in Bhoiwada directed officials of Worli police station to register an offence against developers and land owners of Campa Cola building besides civic officials for their alleged role in forging documents, cheating residents and constructing illegal floors to the structure. The court has sought a report from the police by December 30.

The court order had come in the wake of a private complaint lodged byone of the affected residents – Chandru Khemani of Orchid Buildingwhose house faces the hammer.

The court order stated that the nature of allegations levelled pointed that a thorough investigation is required into who had forged documents. The court order noted that the truth would not surface until the matter was thoroughly investigated.

In his complaint, Khemani said that the land on which Orchid building stands had been given by the municipality to developers to construct the building on lease. It added that the developer made illegal construction and flats were sold to Khemani.
