There has been a significant drop in the number of cases of house break-ins in Navi Mumbai in the first ten months of this year, compared to the corresponding period in 2011. According to Navi Mumbai police, there have been around 17% less cases of house break-ins reported so far this year as opposed to last year.
According to the police, greater awareness of safety measures and installation of CCTV cameras in housing societies have helped curb the menace.
Madhukar Pandey, Joint Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Police, said that they had formed teams to look into the modus operandi of gangs active in the city and trapped them accordingly. “We succeeded in our effort as this year so far, about 17 per cent less cases of house break-in have been reported,” he said.
Till October, total number of house break-in cases reported were 415 while in the same period last year, number of house breakin cases were 520.
Not only this, the detection and recovery has also increased. Of the 415 cases registered this year, Navi Mumbai police have solved around 245 with the help of detection rate of 59%. However, in the same period of last year, of 502 cases, police only solved 230 cases, which is 46 % detection rate .
Pandey said that there has been rise in recovery of stolen goods in house burglary. Till October, police recovered stolen items worth Rs 1.75 crore while in the same period last year, the total recovery was around Rs 98 lakh, with rise of around 70 per cent. “We have good rate of recovery of stolen items which are given to original owners,” said Pandey.
Meanwhile, the crime branch of Navi Mumbai police arrested three persons and claimed to have solved around 21 house break-in cases across Navi Mumbai in the last one year period.
