Security has been beefed up at all the major airports in the country including the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in the city following the terror attack in Pubjab on Monday.

According to security officials posted at CSIA, cars and passengers at the airport are being checked and frisked at the entry points of the airport. Also, a vigil is kept on people who loiter around the airport area. The help of local police has also been taken to keep up surveillance around the airport.

"Similarly, the cargo consignments are also being more closely scanned for any explosive etc." said a senior security official at CSIA. Most of the civil aviation airports in the country are manned by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

CSIA is considered to be among the busiest airports in the sub-continent with more than 36.63 millon passengers moving in and out of it every year. The airport also sees about 6,94,261 tonnes of cargo in a year.

The Mumbai police, in the wake of the terror attack in Punjab's Gurudaspur, has put the city on high alert. The Mumbai police have increased security of the places with high footfall like malls, railway stations and cinema halls.
Police commissioner Rakesh Maria has asked all his men to be alert.

"As a precautionary measure, we have increased security at the vital installations as well as at places that are generally crowded," said a senior police officer. "We have also activated our informer network to pick up any information about anti-social elements in the city," he added.
