I’d wish for an enrichment of human values. While materialistic pursuits are important, the gentler aspects of life are being overlooked. There has to be more kindness, acceptance and love amongst people. Somewhere down the line our values have suffered a breakdown — and there is more anger, as is witnessed in the road rage we see on our streets. I’d say we need a balance
between commercialism and the humanitarian
aspects of life.

I’d be happy if I could treat the world to a better me!
After all, what power do I possess except to change myself for the better. When I see what needs to be changed in people, I realise how much more I have to work upon within me. 2011 will be the year of introspection for me and of being more thoughtful towards others. I can think of no sweeter treat.
Shirley Bose, tarot card reader
I’d wish more tolerance for the world in the New Year.  People need to be more tolerant of each other instead of losing their temper so quickly. Even within families more togetherness and understanding are needed because that increases love between people. Then there needs to be the acceptance that even if the other person is different, you will still love the person. There also needs to be far more religious tolerance.

Anaida, singer
I’d wish for oneness. If people realise that everything is connected at the soul level, they’d be a lot nicer to each other. I believe that spiritually we’re all microcosms of the same macrocosmic entity that pervades the universe. Once people realise this at a fundamental level they will begin to make choices out of love, instead of fear. Then their words, thoughts and actions would be based on love.

Durga Jasraj, classical singer
I’d wish for unconditional love. That people rise above all their religious problems and spread love instead. That they accept differences between themselves and others and forgive what they perceive as transgressions to themselves.
