English footballer Wayne Rooney has lost his £1 million ad deal with Coca-Cola after the emergence of a string of damaging allegations over his private life.

Rooney, 25, who was the face of Coke Zero, was dropped after senior bosses in the US feared the lurid revelations could taint the soft drink giant's family-friendly image.

He was booted from an advertising campaign last September after allegations surfaced that he paid a £1,200-a-night prostitute for sex while his wife Coleen was pregnant.

Coke pulled his image from cans and bottles, and said it was "not appropriate" to use him in promotions but insisted their relationship was ongoing.

But just days after he was banned for a foul-mouthed outburst on live TV, Coca-Cola revealed that it was parting ways with the footballer.

"We mutually agreed we would not renew our relationship. We wish Wayne well in his career," the Daily Express quoted the firm as saying.

The star sparked outrage after turning the air blue during Manchester United's Premier League clash at West Ham.

The FA charged him with using offensive, insulting and abusive language after he aimed his outburst at a TV camera while "celebrating" his hat-trick.
