It’s icing on the cake… err… on the ramp! Passionate pastels, now called sorbet shades, are making waves on the international runway right now, when it comes to accessories like bags and shoes. With most luxury brands launching their spring/summer 2012 collections, it’s official that candy floss colours are ruling the roost at the moment. These shades in pastel-powder pinks, greens, blues, lilacs and yellows lure you with their cool quotient this summer. A much-needed relief from pop and neon colours, these shades come as a breath of fresh air into the fashion scene.

Accessories designer Rohan Arora says, “Bubble gum colours are not new; they have been in for the last one and a half season. Of course, a lot of people love pop colours and many are generally a little sceptical with candy shades, but we are welcoming them with open arms. To make the maximum impact, wear a dull outfit in maroon, grey, or white, so the bag or the shoe stands out. Top-to-toe candy floss colours may make one looking like a clown. So keep that in mind.”

Designer Rimi Nayak wholeheartedly agrees with this trend. She says, “We are getting out of the black mode. Sorbet shades help enhance a simple dress into a different kind of look altogether. Apart from bags and shoes, sheer leggings in funky sorbet shades look very cool.” She points out that earlier most fashionistas used to think of coordinated shades like black with black. “But now we are breaking out of that mode and adding colours to our life, which is nice,” says Rimi.

Designer Archana Kochchar also vouches that these shades in accessories make an outfit stand out: “On the Indian skin tone though, it’s the lemons, peaches, pinks, and lilacs that look lovely. I’m not so sure about the greens. We’ve had too much of bright shades of late, so the next shade to flaunt would be these icing-on-the-cake, sorbet shades. And it’s a nice alternative to pastel; very fresh and very young.”
