In what is described as an ‘unhealthy phenomenon’, people have patterned their sex lives in accordance with their work schedules.

And a recent UK-based study only reinforces this theory. The study suggests that 11 pm on a Saturday night is when a women’s sexual drive is at peak! The research for investigating women’s sex drive, which was commissioned by a women’s health magazine, was undertaken to find the truth behind female libido, and is based on the survey of 1,000 women.

And surprisingly, what seems to be influencing the sex life patterns massively is the work schedule. Lack of free time and hectic work life led by most people today is also held responsible for dampening the mood to cosy up.

According to researchers, this is the time when natural cortisol energy levels, which stimulate sex hormones, are at their peak. Also, levels of the sex hormones, testosterone in men and oestrogen in women, were found to be up to five times higher at the beginning of the day.

Experts suggest that the study, in a way, applies to Indian metropolitan cities too, particularly Mumbai. “People have a tendency to head straight for a drink after a hard day at work on a Saturday. Soon enough, you’re in high spirits and may even have your so-called ‘lucky night’… That, in many ways, explains the study,” says Hemant Mittal, Emotional and Sexual Health Consultant, though he emphasises that both work and sexual patterns of people in India and abroad are vastly different.

However, Hemant warns that adapting your sex life to your work schedule is not salubrious. “It undermines the value of sex. Sex is an act that is supposed to be relieving you of emotional and physical stress. It needs to be enjoyable for both the partners.

Turning it into a routine exercise or like a programmed activity can be highly monotonous, especially for the female gender,” adds Hemant, recommending that one should try and “break the mould” when it comes to sexual behaviours.
