A new study has claimed that reality TV shows turn women into “mean girls”.
According to the study conducted by the Girl Scouts Research Institute, these ‘mean girls’ accept and expect a higher level of drama and aggression in their lives.
“Teen girls who regularly view reality TV accept and expect a higher level of drama, aggression, and bullying in their own lives, and measure their worth primarily by their physical appearance,” TMZ.com quoted the study as saying.
A rep for the institute also noted that reality TV shows “more frequently portray girls and women in competition with one another rather than in support or collaboration and this perpetuates a ‘mean girl’ stereotype and normalises this behaviour among girls who are watching the show”.
