Six students from India have won the International Student Teacher Competition held by the Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA) in the US. The purpose of the competition is to discover and recognise talented students, faculty and staff globally. The competition is fierce among 114 schools and over 6,000 entries.

Vijay Mhetre's picture titled Mobile Studio has been shot in Pushkar, Rajasthan, during an ongoing Camel fair. His shot depicts a man and his camel posing in the backdrop with an elaborate staircase and a chandelier, while the surrounding tent-like stalls are still visible. “It’s quite normal to see humans posing in a studio for a picture. But the sight of a man with a camel was quite gripping in such a raw setting," remarks Vijay who won the Grand Prize in College/University — Single Image category.

Another interesting picture which won the first prize is that of Dhruvin Shah titled Those Young Dayz. Dhruvin’s picture shows an old man lost reading a book, on one side. A pile of more books is visible on the shelves on the other side. On close observation you discover that the book which the man is reading has a picture of a very hot skimpily clad young female.

Some of the other brilliantly shot pictures in the same category include Pankaj Kharat, Balmy Death (second prize); Tirthankar Pal, The Bridge Across Forever (honorable mention); and Chinky Shukla, Art of Labour (honorable mention). Sumedh Gaikwad's pictures titled Pain won third prize in College/University — Digitally Constructed Single Image.

What is interesting to note is that all the six students are studying in Shari Academy of Professional Photography & Digital Imaging, Mumbai, run by Girish Mistry. The academy has won 24 international and 20 Indian awards in the past five years.
