There’s no two way about this — the year that was saw fashion and retail flourish in Bangalore. While the Who’s Who of the fashion fraternity made their presence felt, the best of brands set shop in the city, keeping in tact the tag of being the country’s pret capital. DNA invites image consultant Prasad Bidapa to list out a few milestones...

Been there and does it again
1 The BeYu Fashion Awards saw Varun Bahl and Karan Johar showcase their
collection for the first time in Bangalore. I feel they are the biggest influentials in terms of fashion and Bollywood respectively and that says a lot.

2 For the first time in years, Bangalore boy David Abraham of Abraham&Thakore showcased a unique collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

3 Sanchita Ajjampur won herself laurels worldwide and has continued being a name in international fashion.

4 Manoviraj Khosla has become a national brand and is one of the best known
designers around.

Wait and watch
1 Mayank Modi of Mogra. His unique sense of style comes with a desire to trying out new combinations.

2 Kajal Nachiah has been Manish Malhotra’s assistant, till she decided to return to Bangalore to start on her own. She’s got a great sense of fabric.

3 Julie Kagti is another unsung name who has been around for some time and has worked extensively on Indian weaves.

4 I must mention Ritu-Rochana, Nimirta Lalwani, Amanda Bachalli and Sneha Satyaprakash, who have been doing substantial work and have distinct styles of their own.

Spotted

1 Bangalore showed a terrific trend in evening wear. I think they make for perfect wear for Christmas and New Year.

2 For those unaware, most of India’s top retail brands are housed out of Bangalore. One such instance is that of Reid & Taylor, who have been dressing up the whole country with a lot of élan and finesse. In fact, even the Flying Machine denims are developed out of the city and they stand out with their edgy look.

3 While women’s clothes have gotten quite relaxed, men’s clothing is all about being well-fitted. Be it the skinny carrot, low-rise jeans or the fitted jackets — it’s time men got working on their physiques.

4 Bangalore’s C Krishniah Chetty & Sons have continued to bedazzle people with their exclusive collections and wonderful design principles.

5 Just as Bangalore has embraced a lot of national and international designers and UB City spells luxury and opulence, one cannot but
mention good, old Commercial Street and the by lanes that have continued catering to people for years.

Style pointers
Talking of individual style, I think there are a few things that one just cannot forget.
Make-up is very important and if you’re not buying high-quality make-up, then you’re not taking advantage of all the technology and time that’s being spent to
develop the best of products. A good mascara, blush-on and a tinted lip gloss is something that every woman’s bag should have in it and I must say that Mac has given Bangalore enough food for thought.

With Jimmy Choo now in the city, there is no reason why anyone should compromise on a good pair of shoes.
