Do you fancy cooking up a great meal and setting up a spectacular visual treat for your guests? No longer does one have to long for elegant dinner sets seen at hotels and restaurants, as these stylish table necessities are now within everyone’s reach.

Dinnerware now comes in a host of shapes, colours and materials, adding a touch of chic to your dinner table. So here’s what can make for an exciting dinning experience, at your own home!

    Shapes
The round and oval-shaped plates are history as dinnerware experiences new twists and turns. Though old is gold and round is not completely out, the debutant options to liven up the dinner table include square-shaped, triangular and even leaves and star-shaped dinnerware.

    Colours
For a touch of dramatic and bright colours, there is nothing better than serving your fare in colourful dishes, which are a huge hit these days. With reds, bright yellows and pink, dinner ware is changing colours by the day.

No longer are lighter and pale shades the preferred choice as an avalanche of shade take precedence.

    Patterns and designs
Whimsical and unconventional graphics on dinnerware is another addition to the table. Patterns and designs of dinnerware add a decorative touch to the kitchen as well as the dining table décor.

Animal as well as oriental themes are some of the most popular designs among the recent trends. Don’t be surprised if you find birds, butterflies and animals, joining you for your meal.

    Materials
Part of throwing the best dinner parties is to have tableware items that are not only stunning to look at, but also provide a choice of innovative materials.

And there are more than handful to choose from! Take your pick form expensive ones like porcelain and china, to the reasonably priced earthenware, stoneware, pottery and glass. But do keep in mind that no matter what you eventually choose, it would fit in with your dinner needs well.

    Dinnerware
The green movement has captured the fancy of the home décor industry too. Reduced, reused and recycled is the mantra of many, who prefer to mix and match dinnerware to create a distinctive look and also reduce waste. Green and olive are obviously on top of the menu here!

    Mix and match
Putting two and two together can help make quite a stunning impact, we’ve learned! As image consultant Manjusha Maheswari, offers, “I have always adored vintage items. Creating a fusion of the old and new has always been my preference.”

Manjusha adds that she uses a set of antique Dutch plates and salad bowl, which she bought 10 years back, to get a stunning blend on the dinner table.

“I also have some beautiful hand-painted bowls from Sri Lanka, which when put out, bring glamour to my dinning table,” she says, adding that a combination of these antique plates with silver and hand-painted dishes creates a unique and beautiful setting for her table.
