The city will witness the grandest Cheti Chand celebrations in the city, featuring more than 20,000 Sindhis who will gather at one place to celebrate their New Year on March 24. A series of events have been planned by the Sindhis of the city to make the event a grand one.

Sindhis will cover every area of the city on the auspicious day. There will be three different processions. One will be taken out from Panchkuva to Lal Darwaza, with more than 60 trucks.

Participants are gearing themselves up and giving final touches to their art work which will be on display. A competition to showcase the talent of Sindhis has been organized which has already received good participation. The best art or structure will be rewarded.

Speaking to DNA, convenor of Sindhi Cheti Chand Day committee, Narendra Somani said, “This will be the first time that we will organize programs at Vallabh Sadan on a huge scale, accommodating around 25,000 people.

For this day, we have planned two major events -- grand processions from three different areas of the city along with various other cultural programmes. Firecrackers will lift the spirits of the celebrations.”

Somani said that this will be the first time that 100 people have been appointed to collect the garbage. “During such large processions, water pouches and paper bowls cause lot of garbage. But this time we have decided not to litter the streets, “ added Somani.

The programs at Jhulelaal open air theatre include Sindhi cultural performances and a comedy play by Ahmedabad based artists. Similar programs have been planned at Vallabh Sadan at Sabarmati Riverfront.

Several artists like Saloni, Bharti, singer Mohit Lalwani and others will entertain the audience at Vallabh Sadan. “Also, this is the first time that the venue for the celebrations will be completely hi-tech with LCD screens and other equipments,” added Somani.
