Fashion designer AD Singh is quite a trendy travelista! Not only does he aim to bag a big fat vacation each year — while dismissing the 'by-chance' ones as just 'not countable' — but also plans it to precision, sometimes even as much as a year in advance. His last trip to Thailand and Bangkok, along with his wife, was quite a joyous journey, he says, adding that "Bangkok's much more than just a shopping destination."

AD began with Kanachburi — a remote town with much bucolic wealth and a splendid monastery that houses some 112 tigers, all of which have been rescued from the poachers and are taken care of at the monastery itself. “Because the tiger cubs are tamed, one can touch and play with these big cats… It's such a delight to have the huge tigers come and rest their heads on your laps to get some sleep and baby pats,” he says. “Obviously it gets uncomfortable to have a 300 kilos weight on you (laughs). You need to support the animal's head on your puny laps by placing your hand just below its jaws.”

The monastery, a five-hour-long drive from Bangkok, can be reached by an ac bus, “but from the bus station you need to find a cab.” On the way, the couple stopped at the floating market, a fruit bazaar on the Chao Phraya River. Says AD, “It’s so dense that you can indulge and get away by plucking a few... just as we did (smiles).”

From Kanchanaburi, the two moved to Hua Hin, an upmarket island resort in Thailand. “The island is not so touristy and has some virgin, untouched and super clean beaches. One can just relax by the white sand beaches and chill by the poolside.

However, we took to the local idea of redoing our vows and coming in Greek style chariot just for fun!”

The couple settled back into Bangkok for two nights, in the last leg of the trip, before doing some endless shopping at Pratunam, a whole sale shopping area. The highlight of the day, however, turned out to be the Thai massages followed by a dinner on the open roof top restaurant on the 85th floor at Baiyoke Sky. “The roof top restaurant gave breathtaking view of the entire city which is lined up with tall skyscrapers which still looked small from our dinning area. And while AD is already planning another holiday in his head, he recommends the Bangkok-Thailand as a “must-go place for all to have a nice romantic dining experience”.
