This Sunday, don’t be surprised if you bump into your favourite neighbourhood hero Spidey riding a cycle or witness a tea party with people dressed up in snooty English garb.

Just throw caution to the winds, call your friends together and join in the fun. This is the Wall Project 3: an opportunity for people to get outdoors and enjoy the simple things in life.

“We want people to come forward and organise their own events, making the optimum use of public spaces,” says Parag Gandhi, member of the Wall Project team and owner of a design studio. Interaction with people, friends and strangers, using minimum resources is the primary idea. The members are working in association with the BMC, and for the first time are inviting people of the city to host their own events in their localities.

“The idea is to go out and have fun with your friends doing the stuff you did when you were younger, or when you had the time and the space to try out all your creative stuff,” adds Gandhi. Aarti Sinha grew up playing pittu (seven tiles) at family get-togethers and with friends every evening at her home in Jamshedpur.

The nostalgia related to the game and the desire to play it again with friends in the city, prompted her to organise the pittu event. “Nowadays it’s very rare to find people playing such games outdoors, especially owing to the space crunch,” she says. Her solution: clearing out her building’s driveway in Bandra to make space for pittu.

The Wall Project is giving you a chance to dress up and participate in a tea party, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. “It has a whimsical feel to it and is our escapist version of the Alice tea party,” says Tanaya Kaji, who will host the Mad Fake Tea Party at the chess tables on Carter Road. The fake bit is that there will be no tea and it will be held late evening, but people are welcome to come with scones, biscuits, cakes and their own tea party treats. “Once people get there, they can do what they wish: sing songs, play board games or cards, sketch, do knitting; anything goes at this party,” says Kaji.

The fun and the unusual is the central basis common to all Wall Project events. And if dressing up in costume is your style, be a part of the Super Hero Squad.

All that is needed is a costume of choice and your super vehicle — a cycle. A unique event is the Post-it Notes Surprise: that is inviting people to give in suggestions and ideas for the city on post it notes which will then be put up as a permanent installation.

“We plan to make the lost art of letter writing more exciting. We have invited photographers and artists to create postcards. These will be up for display and people can just choose the one they like, address it to someone and post it,” says Shaxeb S, an independent artist.

Since this is the Wall Project, the wall painting will also happen on the empty stretches on Tulsi Pipe Road, Mahim. Those interested should bring their own materials.

It’s time to paint the town red, both literally and figuratively.

Events start from 4pm onwards. For more details, contact: info@thewallproject.com
