Summer is not about all bland whites this year — so girls go out and soak up some sun and flaunt a riot of colours on your body that ace designers of the country are advising you to wear. By the sound of it, pastels are definitely the ‘in’ colour this season.

Designer Rocky S says, “The start of the Spring/Summer 2010 season means it’s time to refresh your wardrobe. Take this as an opportunity to not only splurge, but to set a course for how you’ll dress for not just spring or summer, but beyond into 2010. From hot pants and boy shorts to soft flowy dresses, from jumpsuits and playsuits to sheer fabric trend — all give a subtle feminine appeal. And as far as the swimwear choice goes, opt for cutaway monokinis — they are the must-have piece for 2010. Infrequently demure, this is the one bikini trend that isn’t for the wall flower but can be styled to ooze both sex and sophistication without ever saying ‘easy’.”

The trends you should choose are soft pastel hues to flaunt — blue, pink, lilac, spearmint and yellow. The strongest colours in this spring fashion palette are strawberry ice, apricot gold, silver and blue. Brilliant blue is also a hit if you wear it well. Various sorbet tones, cream, grey, beige, soft pastel dusty pinks, silvery white, palest lemon, mauve, lilac, cherry red, brown, olive green and aqua blue, turquoise should also refresh your wardrobe.

“This summer, soft refreshing colours like true tones of blue, green, lemon, light orange, peach and pinks will be ruling the palette.  These exuberant shades in a variety of fabrics with an interesting play of embroidery textures are hot. Silhouettes will be easy-to-wear. A gamut of crushed and smooth surfaces, contrasting textures and finish, shall contribute to playfulness in your wardrobe this summer,” says Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul.

Delicate and feminine, you could wear pastels even to office but don’t shy away from wearing the bright fluid dresses at night if you want to. Chiffon blouses or dresses with delicate tulle underskirts are also in.

Neeta Lulla ends saying, “Pastels are always big in summer as it is soothing and wearable in a tropical climate like ours. It reflects light, it makes the wearer feel cool and because of its soothing nature it is practical and wearable. Pastels cannot be restricted in wearability. They can be worn as long summer dresses, shorts with kurtas, lounge wear or sarees. Colours can be worn in shades or prints or as solids.”
