It’s Valentine’s Day, just the perfect the reason to make your partner feel special. It’s likely that selecting the perfect V-Day gift has been driving you up the wall. From hi-tech gizmos to specially-created jewellery lines, and from customised packages to soft toys, the options are many, courtesy the Internet etc, that go into an overdrive trying to help you pick that perfect gift. But more than making the gift-picking easy, they sometimes just seem to make choosing any one gift even more confusing with the limitless options available.

What a survey says
But if you think that when it comes to gifting, bigger is better, and that you can’t bring a smile to your loved ones face without splurging on something so expensive that you’d end up with lighter pockets, then think again. A recent consumer research study has revealed some surprising results.

According to the study, when it comes to gifting on Valentine’s Day, chocolates and good ol’ flowers still rule the gift-o-meter. And around 77% of Mumbaikars consider chocolates to be a must buy on Valentine’s day, while 32 per cent would love to receive just simple good ’ol flowers from their partners. In fact, a majority of women think that February 14 would not be complete without chocolate and flowers.

‘Flowers are beautiful’
This survey, however, hardly comes as a surprise to most of city’s swish set, who feel that chocolates and flowers are something that they associate with timeless romance and passion. “I think flowers in a way symbolise both purity and beauty, while chocolates are a pure indulgence of senses, which together epitomise the essence of any relationship, so I think they make the ideal gifts for Valentine’s,” feels Bollywood beauty Vidya Balan, adding  that with some romantic poetry, it would be the perfect combo to win her heart.

More B-town gals speak
Actress Sameera Reddy believes that often expensive gifts put a price tag on love too. “Gifting flowers and chocolates is a beautiful gesture and also show that the person giving it is not insecure about his love and is not relying on his money alone to woo a girl,” explains Sameera.

Actress Kangna Ranaut says, “Chocolates are naughty and flowers are nice. And naughty and nice can keep the relationship
going,” she feels.

Chocolatier Nalini Sreejeev admits to seeing a sudden jump in the demand for Valentine’s Day. “Naughty cakes and chocolate lingerie are a hot favourite too,” she shares.
