Yuletide festivities begin in Nagaland

    An Yuletide euphoria gripped Nagaland on the advent of Christmas with Christians rushing for last minute shopping in the major towns of the state dominated by Christian population.

    Much ahead of the Christmas, churches, shops, residential buildings and office buildings have been decorated with lights, Christmas tress, stars and Santa Claus on street corners.

    While students studying outside the state arrived home, the employees and students residing at this capital town started leaving for their respective villages to remain with their near and dear ones during the Christmas celebration.

    In places like Mokokchung, Dimapur and Kohima, Churches of various denominations organised carol singing and cake-making competitions.

    The 22nd edition of Children’s Christmas Cake Carol Competition, an annual event organised by the youth department of Mokokchung Town Baptist Arogo (Church), was held on Tuesday under the theme "Cherubim Melodies" where about a thousand children below 13 years of age took part.

    Nagaland DGP K Kire left for West Bengal to be with jawans and officers of Nagaland IR battalion during the Christmas celebration at Purulia where Naga boys have been fighting Maoists.
