Women activists of Congress hail Sonia Gandhi

Around 150 women from Mahila Congress and NSUI, which include about 20 Delhi University students, converged at Gandhi's 10-Janpath residence this evening and presented her flowers and bouquets.

Scores of Congress women activists, including college students, today met party chief Sonia Gandhi here to congratulate her for the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
    
Around 150 women from Mahila Congress and NSUI, which include about 20 Delhi University students, converged at Gandhi's 10-Janpath residence this evening and presented her flowers and bouquets.
    
A beaming Gandhi thanked the workers for their support and also congratulated them.
    
"She was very happy that the Bill has crossed the first hurdle. She congratulated us," said Amrita Dhawan, former Delhi University Students' Union president who met Gandhi along with other NSUI members.
    
A large number of Mahila Congress workers also met the Congress president.
    
History was created in Rajya Sabha yesterday when it voted by an overwhelming majority a Bill to reserve one-third of seats in Lok Sabha and Assemblies for women after government pushed ahead with it, ignoring possible threats to its stability.
