Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approves new energy policy

Renovation of old plants and establishments of new ones with public-private partnership has also been considered in the new policy.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet today approved the new energy policy that aims to provide electricity to all families within the next five years.
    
"The new energy policy aimed at ensuring average energy availability per person to 1000 units from 340 units and providing electricity to all in next five years," an official spokesman said here.
    
The new energy policy that was approved by the state cabinet chaired by chief minister Mayawati here also fixed a target of increasing additional power generation of 10 thousand MW by 2014 and 32 thousand MW by 2017 by engaging private parties, he said.
    
Also, the government has earmarked Rs8,000 crore for strengthening transmission in the state and would join hands with the private parties for the purpose, the spokesperson said.
   
Renovation of old plants and establishments of new ones with public-private partnership has also been considered in the new policy, he said.
   
Besides, attempts and new initiatives to stop line losses have also been planned, he added.
