The BJP today pinned down the Centre for 'gross economic mismanagement' which it said was the reason for price rise ever since the UPA government took over the reins in 2004.

"There has been  gross economic mismanagement in the country and a lack of coordination between the ministers and policy-makers and the will to take remedial measures to check in escalating price rise," the BJP national vice-president Kalraj Mishra told reporters here.

"There are so many economists, including prime minister Man Mohan Singh, running the UPA government and yet price rise has shown no signs of decline in spite of abundance of goods and foodgrains for consumption of the people,"Mishra said.

Rotting of foodgrains at public places and the failure of government agencies to life imported supply of pulses and sugar has been widely reported in the media, he said and rued that if the Centre had used the available supply of commodities, prices would have come down benefiting consumers.

Even now it was not too late for the Centre to take appropriate measures to bring down the prices otherwise the country may be faced with 'economic anarchy' soon, the BJP MP warned.

He also flayed the UPA government for its failure to tackle internal security in the country "reeling under one or other form of insurgency" and said its ambivalent stand on the demand of autonomy for Jammu & Kashmir was a glaring example of its failings.

The Centre should nip in the bud the demand by the divisive forces for autonomy for the strife-torn state, he said, adding that the BJP would oppose tooth and nail such a demand as Jammu and Kashmir had special status under article 370 of the constitution.

Similarly, there were demands from various quarters for implementation of the R S Sachchar and Rangnath Misra committee reports on reservation for the Muslims, he said, adding the government should resist temptation to accede to demand for benefit to a religious community.

Opposing reports recommending reservation in jobs and other measures for Muslims alone, the BJP leader regretted there was no move to secure benefits for all minority communities.
