Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of not taking the flood situation seriously, Union Minister of State for Coal Sri Prakash Jaiswal today said the state has not sent any report to the Centre regarding the calamity.

The UP government has not sent any report to the centre with regard to the floods caused by the rivers emanating from Nepal nor has given the details of the marooned villages in various districts, Jaiswal told reporters here.

The Minister during his visit here also took stock of the flood situation in Basti, Sant Kabirnagar and Siddhartnagar besides taking part in a function organised by local Congress MP Jagdambika Pal.

He said that neither chief minister Mayawati nor her ministers have visited the flood-hit areas. "Even the relief commissioner has not not visited these areas".

Jaiswal said that the state government's attitude towards floods was similar to that taken by it for drought.

"It was only after the agriculture minister made a statement in the parliament that a report on the drought conditions was sent to the centre", he said.

"It is required on the part of the state to start relief works immediately and send its teams to help the affected people, Jaiswal said, adding that in case a demand is made by the state, the centre would look into it.
