As a result of the city police's efforts, the likes of Latif, the most dreaded underworld don of the city in the 1990s, were eliminated and other gangsters like Abdul Wahab and Mehboob Senior were put behind bars.

However, this has led to a free-for-all scenario where various small gangs are at war for area dominance. One such feud in Amraiwadi late on Sunday night ended up with two bootleggers being murdered.

An ugly brawl led to Kartik Mudaliyar and Bagi Kavandar, a bootlegger duo of Amraiwadi, being allegedly killed by Galiyo Rabari, his two brothers Hasu and Naresh and Choko, Amraiwadi police said. All the accused are also bootleggers and residents of Bhaipura in Amraiwadi, the police added. In fact, Kartik, 24, a resident of Nadia Wadi, was even booked by police in a murder case but was let off by the court due to lack of evidence.

The Rabari brothers and Choko attacked 18-year-old Bagi, a resident of Dost Nagar, Amraiwadi, and Kartik with swords and iron pipes when they went to Jagshibhai Ni Chali in Bhaipura in order to admonish the accused for the assault on their friend Bhavesh.

Earlier, at 10:15pm, the accused had attacked Bhavesh near Bage Fordos police line and managed to injure him. Bagi’s mother, Malarben Kavandar, 40, who runs an omelette lari near the police line, identified Bhavesh and rushed him to LG Hospital in Maninagar.  She called Bagi to inform him of the attack on Bhavesh.

Bagi's mother has filed a complaint at Amraiwadi police station against the Rabari brothers and the police have detained four persons in this regard. Police inspector Goswami is investigating the matter.
