KD Pant, a former staff member of the Gujarat state intelligence bureau (SIB), has told the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) that he was not present at the Gujarat chief minister’s bungalow on February 27, 2002, evening, when his boss, Sanjiv Bhatt had gone in to meet the CM, Narendra Modi.

Bhatt has claimed that Modi had instructed cops to go soft on the Hindu rioters to teach Muslims a lesson. Bhatt said that Pant, then an assistant intelligence policeman, and his driver Tarachand Yadav were present when he went to the CM’s house.
