Traders protest against metro project in Kochi

Place: Kochi | Agency: PTI

A section of traders in Kochi disrupted the survey work of the Kochi Metro Rail project for the second day today despite the presence of police force.

When the survey work began near the Jos junction on the arterial MG Road this morning, the traders prevented the officials from conducting survey. They have also threatened to boycott the Kerala Shopping festival which is now on.

The traders are against the metro project saying it would harm their interests and are demanding that those affected should be properly rehabilitated.

The government should prepare a detailed blue print on land acquisition and identify the traders who are likely to be affected, they said.

The project is part of the initiative of the Kerala government to better the infrastructure of Kochi, the state's commercial capital.
