With less than a year left for the mega sporting event, the top post of Commonwealth Games security in charge is still awaiting appointment as the matter is pending in the Central Administrative Tribuna (CAT).

A Bench of CAT, Bangalore has issued a notice to the Union home ministry asking it to file reply within four weeks over non-appointment to the post of additional director general (Security) for the Commonwealth Games for over a year in spite the Tribunal's order.

RP Sharma, a 1987 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre had filed the appeal with CAT against the Union government in January this year after his name was not considered for the the post even though it was initially recommended.

Incidentally, last year, the CWG Organising Committee headed by Suresh Kalmadi had sent a proposal to the ministry of home affairs recommending Sharma's name for the job on the basis of a report made by a search committee.

Based on the recommendations of both the Organising Committee and Karnataka government, Sharma also attended different CWG security related meetings here even as the proposal to appoint him formally was awaiting clearance with the MHA.

However, Sharma's name was not cleared after "careful consideration" of the matter by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Meanwhile, the Union home ministry and the sports ministry had recommended Ajay Chadha, a 1977 batch IPS officer of AGMU cadre, who too had expressed his interest for the post.
