A 32-year-old woman attempted suicide after she was allegedly threatened by accomplices of a Ponzi scamster on Wednesday.
The woman is one of the eight victims of the Ponzi scam, against which an FIR was registered with Gaekwad Haveli police on Sunday last. She was allegedly threatened by the accused. The terrified woman consumed some poisonous liquid. She was being treated at the hospital.

According to Gaekwad Haveli police, Faridabanu Haraf, a resident of Habib Chowk in Jamalpur, had lodged an FIR against Safi Miyan, Usman Miyan and one Babloo. She alleged that the main accused, Pesh Imam, had floated a scheme in the name of FK Sons in which she had invested Rs2 lakh. In this scheme, a total of eight people claimed to have lost Rs25 lakh. Faridabanu said that she got a couple of installment of Rs10,000 each as interests but after that she didn't receive any money from the company. After running from pillar to post to get her money back, she approached the police and lodged an FIR on Sunday. She alleged that the police didn't include the name of the main accused, an Imam.

However, Gaekwad Haveli inspector SM Parmar said that the reason behind Faridabanu's suicide attempt was not clear. She has been admitted to VS Hospital where her condition was stable. According to police, the woman is economically poor and the loss of Rs2 lakh has affected her. Her husband runs a small shop in Jamalpur.

In this Ponzi scam, the total amount involved is said to be over Rs4 crore in which hundreds of people have been duped.
