SM Krishna will not contest elections anymore

External affairs minister and senior Congress leader SM Krishna today said he would not contest elections anymore. "I'm not going to contest any more elections," US-educated and 78-year-old Krishna, said.

Power of wealth was wreaking havoc on elections, the former Karnataka chief minister and Maharashtra Governor said delivering a Rajaji Memorial Lecture here.

Krishna, a Full Bright scholar who taught international law at the George Washington University Law School before plunging into politics, said money, muscle and state power was a deadly combination often used to perpetuate oneself in power.

A Rajya Sabha member, Krishna had stayed away from last assembly elections in Karnataka in 2008 after he returned to state politics quitting as Maharashtra Governor in March that year. He kept himself out of the Lok Sabha elections last year.
