The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) today asked devotees to obtain yatra permits before undertaking the pilgrimage to the 3,888 metre high Amarnath cave shrine.

"All yatris who intend to undertake the pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath should complete the necessary registration formalities and obtain a yatra permit before embarking on their journey to avoid inconvenience," Chief Executive Officer of SASB R K Goyal said.

For the convenience of the pilgrims, the registration facility is available at 121 registration counters established at the designated Branches of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, located across the country, he said, adding the details of the registration counters are available at the Shrine Board's website (www.shriamarnathjishrine.com).

Goyal said that considering the long distance and time taken through the traditional Sheshnag route, registration of pilgrims on the route will be allowed upto August 22, while the registration for the Baltal route will close on August 23.

All the registered pilgrims, with a valid yatra permit, have been provided free accident insurance cover of Rs one lakh, he said, adding however, the facility cannot be availed by unregistered yatris.

The nearly two-month long annual Amarnath yatra to the 3,888 metre cave shrine commenced from both the traditional as well as the shortest Baltal route on July 1 and will conclude on Augst 25.
