Ginning mills in Saurashtra region of Gujarat on Wednesday  began their two-day strike to protest the Centre's decision to ban export of cotton.

"Ginning mills in the state have gone on a two-day strike to oppose the Union Government's decision on banning cotton exports. The ginning mill owners will meet on March 9 to decide on their future action plan," Bharat Vala, President of Saurashtra Ginning Mills Association said.

All marketing yards in Saurashtra have also extended their support by joining the strike and suspended auction of cotton till the ban is withdrawn, Hardevsin Jadeja, President of Rajkot Marketing Yard said.

Meanwhile, farmers in all districts of Saurashtra took out rallies and submitted memorandums to concerned district authorities demanding to revoke the ban with immediate effect.

The Government, on Monday banned cotton export fearing shortage in domestic supply and hoarding in warehouses abroad.
