The Special Court on Wednesday adjourned the recording of statement of Sasikala Natarajan, estranged aide and co-accused in the wealth case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa till hearing of an application filed by Sasikala's counsel tomorrow.

When the Special Court commenced proceedings, Sasikala's counsel C Manishankhar filed an application under 207, 243(2) of CrPC read with Rule 2 of Chapter 14 of Karnataka Criminal Rules of Practice 1968 seeking various documents which have been filed by the prosecution but have not been marked as exhibits in court in connection with the case.

Unless the documents are furnished, Manishankhar submitted that it would not be possible for Sasikala to satisfactorily explain the question put to her by the court under section 313 CrPC.

Judge BM Mallikarjunaiah then sought to know from Assistant Special Public Prosecutor Sandesh Chouta, whether he wished to file objections to which Chouta said he would file it tomorrow. However, he insisted that the recording of the statement should continue.

Manishankhar submitted that the very purpose of seeking the documents was to effectively answer the questions posed and hence unless the documents are given, it will not be possible for Sasikala to effectively explain her position.

After hearing both sides, the judge directed the prosecution to file objections by tomorrow and adjourned Sasikala's questioning till hearing of the application.
