Ruckus at Christian meet: 22 Bajrang men held, BJP men booked

Nearly 22 Bajrang Dal workers were arrested when they were prevented by police from entering into a meeting of Christian Community (Changai Sabha) following which they created ruckus.

The incident occurred last night when police prevented Bajrang Dal workers from entering a meeting of the Christian community (Changai Sabha) at local Mulna stadium following which they created ruckus, police said today.

Police used mild force to prevent them from entering into the stadium and later arrested 22 Bajrang Dal workers from the spot for disrupting peace, police said.

Later, police also cane-charged BJP workers along with few saffron outfit men who entered the nearby BJP office during the ruckus following which they also have a clash with police and pelted stones at the force.

Meanwhile, taking the incident seriously, BJP workers, led by party MP, KD Deshmukh and MLA, Ramesh Bhatere, staged a sit-in at the police station in protest against the police action.

The party workers also indulged in violence at many places in the city including at the railway station following which police registered a case against 23 identified and 50unidentified persons.

Against those cases were registered include Bajrang Dal's Coordinator, Lalit Pardhi, Area Coordinator Golu Thakre, BJP's city unit president Dilip Chourasia and corporator Manu Yadav, Town Police Inspector, Dhiraj Babbar told reporters.

Meanwhile, IG Balaghat Range, CV Muniraju suspended constables - Sudesh Singh and Sudhakar Basatkar for allegedly manhandling BJP workers at the party office.

After the suspension was announced, BJP workers withdrew their sit-in at around 0400 am, police added.
