The RSS, severely indicted by the Liberhan Commission for the Babri Masjid demolition, today strongly emphasised on the principle of unity in diversity saying the "culture and traditions of Muslims and Christians are akin to Hindus".

"We should move ahead collectively...uniformity is must for unity of the country and it is the Sangh's thought," RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told a gathering of organisational workers and citizens here on the occasion of 17th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid.

He, however, did not make any direct reference to the bringing down of the disputed structure in Ayodhya in 1992 for which the Liberhan Commission had strongly indicted the RSS.

"No ideology preaches that everything should be separate ... our way of living life might be different but we must move ahead in unity," Bhagwat said.

Noting that the basic nature of Hindu society is "tolerant as 'Hindutva' accepts everyone and opposes none", he said "even Christians and Muslims are one in Bharat and their culture and traditions are akin to Hindus."

"Hindutva is the ancient culture of Bharat that teaches us a method of connecting and accommodating every one. We need to inculcate the habit of unity in our lifestyle," Bhagat said.

He said thinkers and visionary leaders around the globe are looking forward with high hopes towards 'Bharat' for its integral and holistic vision. The RSS chief expressed concern over the effects of climate change.

"We are no more the part of nature after rapid industrialisation. Earlier we were living on use of sunlight, air and water and the man was part of the nature. Today our life is sustained on stored sunlight, coal and oils which are fast depleting," Bhagat said. He claimed that common people are worried about the national security of the country.

"We are well acquainted with the behaviour and ultimate motives of Pakistan and China towards us. Bangladesh has also been creating problems for us by not destroying terrorists camps in that country," he said.

Bhagat charged the US with playing a "double game" by asking both India and Pakistan to jointly resolve their issue through talks "but the same country had uprooted many nations".

He took a dig at politicians for "creating wedges among people for vested interests" on the issue of languages, parties, organisations and river waters. He stressed on upliftment of common man for strengthening the country and said there was dire need to protect the society.
