Rs10.13-lakh theft in HDFC bank, hunt on for missing guard

A manhunt has been launched to nab a security guard after a sum of over Rs10 lakh kept in a cash bag was stolen from a private bank here, police said today.

The amount kept in a cash bag by two cashiers of HDFC bank in Mahankali area in Hyderabad went missing from the bank premises yesterday when they had gone for lunch, police said.

"The two cashiers kept collection amount of Rs10.13 lakh in a cash bag near the cash counter, but forgot to lock the door. When they returned they noticed that the cash bag was missing and complained to police last night," a police officer attached to Mahankali police said.

Meanwhile, the bank authorities learnt that one private security guard R Reddy, who was reportedly on duty near the cash counter, also went absconding after the incident, the police officer said.

"We suspect the role of the security guard behind the cash theft and a hunt has been launched to nab him," the police officer added.
