The city is back to its sunny days and respite from monsoon’s fury will continue, the state’s weather office has said. After being lashed with more than 95 per cent of its annual rainfall in the first phase of the season this year, Gujarat is likely to get a short respite from heavy thundershowers as the mechanism for rain is on a decreasing mode.

But there was a downpour on Thursday evening.  The monsoon is still on and its early departure is unikely. Monsoon mechanism is still vigorous over south Gujarat which is forecasted to get heavy rains in the next two days.

“The mechanism of monsoon is on the decrease over the entire state for the coming few days,” said Dr. Kamaljit Ray of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). “However, heavy rains will occur in the next 48 hours in all districts of south Gujarat including Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli, which have received normal rains this season, “ Ray added.

The rainfall has been average over Gujarat state till August 19 -- at 698.8 mm against the normal of 503.9 mm, an excess by 39% from normal, informed the weather office. 

The average rainfall over Saurashtra and Kutch till August 19 is 718.5 mm against 374.2 mm which is 92% more than its usual rain pattern.
