Rescue stranded Indian students from Kyrgyzstan: Chandrababu Naidu

In a letter to external affairs minister SM Krishna, the former chief minister said Indian students, including six from Andhra Pradesh, were stranded in Bishkek.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu today requested the Union government to bear the expenses for moving out Indian students stranded in Kyrgyzstan, treating it as a special case.

In a letter to external affairs minister SM Krishna, the former chief minister said Indian students, including six from Andhra Pradesh, were stranded in Bishkek after having returned from violence-hit cities like Osh and Jalal-Abad.

"It has been represented by relatives of these students that they lost their passports, bank ATM cards and other valuables. But the Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan is said to be insisting that the students pay for their return tickets to India or surrender their passports for getting free tickets," Naidu said in the letter.

"It is averred that even smaller countries like Pakistan have arranged special flights and helped their citizens fly out of the strife-hit country. Further, majority of the stranded people were said to be starving and lacked basic facilities for the past six days," he said.

He requested that all stranded students be moved out of Kyrgyzstan at government expense as a special case.

In a similar letter to state chief minister K Rosaiah, the TDP leader urged him to prevail upon the external affairs ministry for securing free passage of the stranded Indian students, including those hailing from Andhra Pradesh.
