A record number of 31 government bills were passed by the Assembly during the month-long budget session, which culminated on Wednesday. Talking to media persons, Assembly speaker Ganpat Vasava, said, "The assembly passed a record 31 government bills during the budget session. Usually, a maximum of 25 government bills are taken up during the budget session, but the number was 31 this time."

He further added that it is also a matter of pride that 61 laws, which were named after Bombay or Mumbai, were rechristened and named after Gujarat.

Vasava provided various statistics related to the budget session of the 12th assembly. He informed that the session lasted for 24 days, which included 30 seatings. A total of 164 out of 182 MLAs of the assembly took part in the proceedings.

The speaker also said that 5,708 notices for starred questions were received during the current session.

"This was a record for all sessions of the 12th Assembly. We tried to admit as many questions as possible, and admitted 70% or 3,876 of the total notices. Of these, 194 questions were discussed in the House," he said.

Vasava said that the assembly session went off well and attributed it to the co-operation of the ruling and opposition party leaders, the parties' whips and the MLAs. He also thanked the media for informing the public about the proceedings of the assembly.
