The unseasonal rains in Ahmedabad, caused due to cyclonic storm 'Jal', delayed more than 15 flights on Wednesday, including one international flight, officials at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, said. The flights were delayed due to the rains and poor visibility.

According to officials, more than 15 flights connecting Ahmedabad with various cities were delayed by 30 to 45 minutes because of the adverse weather conditions caused due to cloudy weather and rain.

Most of the flights delayed by the adverse weather conditions were domestic flights. International flights were by and large unaffected. The delayed flights belonged to Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways, Indigo Airlines and Goair. More than 15 flights were delayed due to the weather.

While a number of passengers were inconvenienced due to the flight delays, the one good thing was that no flight was cancelled.

“Flights between Ahmedabad and Mumbai were the worst hit due to the rains and cloudy weather conditions leading to poor visibility at the airport. However, not a single flight was cancelled,” said sources at Ahmedabad airport.

Flights connecting the city with Bangalore, Delhi and Chennai were also among those affected due to the adverse weather. Sources at the airport said that most of the delayed flights were running 30 to 45 minutes behind schedule.

“The delayed flights were mostly morning flights, with an average delay of 30 to 45 minutes for most of them. However, flights were more or less on schedule in the second half of the day,” said officials at the airport.
Anuj Aggarwal, director, Ahmedabad airport, said the flight delays were due to a combination of bad weather and ongoing work at Mumbai and other airports.

Officials, added that the evening and night flights were on schedule.
